Electrical Technician

SummaryUnder general supervision of the Supervisor, the Electrical Technician normally works alone within assigned geographic area but at times is required to coordinate his/her work activities with other Technicians to make repairs to electrical equipment and may be required to inspect or oversee the work of others, either contract employees or Energy Transfer employees in the installation or maintenance of electrical equipment.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.
The essential job duties for this position are listed below:
Interprets and recommends corrective actions based on test results produced by internal and outside firms for major electrical equipment such as transformer diagnostics, infrared surveys, protective relay calibrations, and motor diagnostics.
Carries out preventive maintenance programs, completes installation and construction assignments, performs complete overhaul and reconditioning of equipment, performs the routine testing and logging of pipeline safety checks as required by DOT regulations, and Company policies and procedures.
Investigates and diagnoses reported problems, making required repairs and adjustments, restoring equipment and facilities to proper operation for all electrical equipment located at multiple pipeline pump stations, delivery facilities, breakout tank farms and warehouse and office buildings located in the district.
May be required to diagnose problems other than electrical in nature and perform minor repairs.
Maintains a spare parts inventory sufficient to prevent lengthy service interruptions of electrical facilities and equipment.
Orders parts and repair materials as required, incorporating Company policies and procedures to assure accurate accounting records.
Must use and operate all pertinent safety equipment when performing duties in potentially hazardous areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.
).
Display workmanship consistent with industry standards, company work practices, applicable codes and/or engineering drawings and sketches.
Subject to 24-hour emergency call out to restore operations of pipeline facilities system wide.
Communicates with other technicians for assistance in effecting repairs when applicable.
Special ConsiderationsMust reside within 45 miles of reporting location.

RequirementsEducation and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The requirements for this position are listed below:
Associate's degree in electrical / electronics from an accredited college, university or vocational school (e.
g.
AA/AS/AAS/BA/BS/TSD/APP) or equivalent including 2-5 years of pipeline electrical maintenance experience.
Must be a Journeyman, or Journeyman Class Electrician, qualified to work on 13,200 volt and below, substation and switchgear equipment.
General familiarity of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), ladder logic, electrical control circuitry (including large motor control), VFD circuitry, protective relays, and similar equipment.
The ability to assist in the preparation of work scope for maintenance issues, and construction projects.
Provides field expertise in electrical equipment specification, equipment repairs (including inspection of vendor/contractor work), and equipment selection in construction and maintenance.
Able to use and operate all pertinent safety equipment when performing duties in potentially hazardous areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.
).
Computer literate with basic skills in MS Windows, Word, Excel, email and Internet usage.
Must be able to work alone and outdoors in extreme weather and perform heavy physical labor in a safe manner.
Maintain a valid driver's license for the state of residence.
